Shipping Your Vehicle To and From Base

In the auto shipping industry, we work with a lot of service members who are relocating. Whether you are moving to your base or moving out of your base, Guardian Auto Transport has your back. When shipping your vehicle to and from base there is a handful of useful tips we have for you. Our team here at Guardian Auto Transport has the utmost respect for our active military and veterans, to show our appreciation, we provide you with a military discount.

Where to Start

When you are planning to relocate and have to ship your car to or from base, we recommend that you book your service about two weeks in advance from when you plan on relocating. Doing so will allow us to confirm a driver for your transport and ensure we can pick up your vehicle on the desired date. If for some reason you won’t be able to be there for the delivery or pickup, you can add a separate contact when setting up your order to release the vehicle. Preparing Your Vehicle for Transport

After setting up the order to ship your vehicle, the next step is preparing it for transport. There’s nothing major you have to do to prepare your vehicle, these preparations are mostly just safety precautions. Make sure that the exterior of your vehicle is clean so the driver can properly inspect the vehicle for damages and discrepancies that existed before transport. Also make sure there are no loose parts on the exterior that could potentially come off the vehicle during transport. We also advise that you only leave 1/4 tank of gas in the vehicle. Personal Belongings

If you are moving to a base or moving out of base, you more than likely will have your personal belongings with you. You are allowed to ship personal items in your vehicle during transport. Per the Department of Transportation you are allowed to ship 100 lb’s of cargo in your vehicle. Your cargo has to remain secured below the window level, has to be in the rear of the vehicle or in the trunk, and nothing behind the driver seat. We recommend not leaving any valuables in the car during transport. While your car is insured 100% during transport, your personal items inside the vehicle are not.
